HARARE ZIMBABWE - Reserve your special air fare tickets
Harare is the capital and most populous city of Zimbabwe. Situated in the north-east of the country in the heart of historic Mashonaland, the city has an estimated population of 1,606,000 (2009), with 2,800,000 in its metropolitan area (2006). Administratively, Harare is a metropolitan province, which also incorporates Chitungwiza town and Epworth. It is situated at an elevation of 1,483 metres (4,865 feet) and its climate falls into the subtropical highland category.
Harare International Airport is an international airport in Harare, Zimbabwe. It is the largest airport in the country and serves as the base of Air Zimbabwe. The airport is operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe. The airport's runway, at 4,725 metres (15,502 ft), it is longer than all of OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa runways, with the longest runway at OR Tambo measuring 4,418 metres (14,495 ft). The reason for this is that both are "hot and high" airports requiring long take-off runs. Harare International airport is currently refurbishing the current runway with lengthening that will result in it being the longest runaway in Africa at over 5,000 metres (16,000 ft) The runway is used by both the civilian airport and the Air Force of Zimbabwe whose base is on the southern side of the runway.
